Former Ravenscraig Works Convener and Trade Union leader, Tommy Brennan, was at the centre of yesterday's Yes Campaign launch as one of the key speakers at an event that brought together leading figures from Scotland's creative communities, politics, the environmental movement, business, broadcasting and the labour movement.
Mr Brennan spoke personally of his reasons for now supporting an independent Scotland and reflected on his experience of the Thatcher years, contrasting these with the opportunity now presented to re-industrialise Scotland, through, for example, the fast-growing offshore renewables sector.

“For me, being independent is about jobs and a stronger Scottish economy. Throughout my life, I have worked to protect and promote Scotland’s industrial base. Becoming independent is a key next step as we work to re-industrialise our nation, building on the wealth of skills and expertise that exist across Scotland.
“With an independent parliament and government working to build recovery, and able to bring together all the levers of social and economic policy, we can take big strides forward. We can deliver an economic and industrial policy based on Scotland’s particular circumstances. An economic policy designed to create a strong future for Scotland’s manufacturing industries, and in turn generate high skill, high value employment for workers in our country.”
As an independent country, "the people living in this country will make the decision in the first instance. Maybe then, just maybe, we’ll all be in it together.”
