Martin Compston to host Yes Scotland launch

Sweet Sixteen star and former Greenock Morton player, Martin Compston is to host today's Yes Scotland launch in Edinburgh.

Speaking at the start of the event, Martin said: "When I was a wee boy growing up in Greenock, I was very aware of how frustrated the grown ups around me were because our country was ruled by a Conservative government that the people of Scotland had not voted for. Now I am grown up myself and we’re in the same situation all over again.

If there’s one great thing to happen in my life it will be the day that I know the future of Scotland and of her people is decided here in Scotland.  And that is why I am saying Yes today. And why I will be saying Yes in Autumn 2014."

Martin will also read a special message from from Sir Sean Connery, setting out his support for an independent Scotland:

"This is a historic day for Scotland.  The Yes campaign is centred on a positive vision for Scotland.  It is rooted in inclusiveness,
equality and that core democratic value that the people of Scotland are the best guardians of their own future."
